Swelarm selects Maingate to support Swedens security system companies
Maingate has signed a contract with Swelarm, the representative body in Sweden for the security system sector, to supply wireless communications solutions.
Communication is the A to Z in the security systems sector. And if an alarm goes off without the connected security centre knowing about it, that alarm might as well not have happened.
"Unfortunately today prepaid mobile phone cards are often used for wireless communication in security alarm facilities," explains Lars Ihd, a board member of the Swelarm national alarm sector organization.
Prepaid cards are an uncertain solution because it can be easy to forget to keep them topped up, which results in an alarm signal not being transmitted to the security centre. Some firms have opted to sign an agreement with a telecom operator instead, which is a better solution. But that can spark other problems.
"For instance, someone within a firm may suddenly spot a line that no one is calling from and, in the belief that it is no longer being used, decides to cancel it," says Lars Ihd.
In order to find a long-term solution for the alarm industry, Swelarm decided to speak to all the telecom operators in the Swedish market and seek a common approach to solving the issue. The goal was to find a solution that would be more stable and safer. The alarm suppliers would remain responsible for subscribers and monitoring, which would enhance security considerably. This is possible with Maingate's new web interface that will be launched in December this year.
The main criteria are that the operator can offer both good coverage and an excellent technical platform.
"We concluded that Maingate had the best solution," says Lars Ihd. "With it, our members get a login to a web interface where they have an overview of all subscribers and can easily monitor their status. The goal with our agreement was to see an end to the use of prepaid cards within the sector."
Swelarm has around 160 authorized members who together turnover around SEK6 billion. For Maingate the contract, that initially encompasses 24 months, is an exciting step into a new area.
"This is the first time we have signed a contract that embraces an entire industrial sector," says Patrick Isacson, Senior VP International Markets.
"We have a web solution that is simple to use across a broad application spectrum and together with the coverage in our net we are able to offer Sweden's alarm companies safer communications."
