Maingate helps E.ON give customers 100koll

Maingate has together with E.ON developed a concept to help meet one of the EU climate goals "202020" that stipulates (among other things) a reduction of total energy consumption with 20%.

The concept is a real-time visualization of energy consumption which E.ON offers to the market under the name "100koll" (approx. 100% control). The concept gives consumers the ability to follow their consumption in real time and thus be able to influence it in order to lower their use, cost and environmental impact.

"Consumers must understand and be involved. For this to happen we need flexible tools that help consumers to understand the energy system and by doing so we'll get more active customers. The 100koll project is a first step in making the customer more aware" says Mr Anders Olsson, member of Exceutive Management E.ON Nordic.

The idea with the 100koll concept is to give consumers direct knowledge about their consumption, as close as real-time as possible. The knowledge is accesible both via Internet, mobile phones and via a in-house display.

"We believe this knowledge will lead to more active choices being made and that people will be able to identify unnecessary consumption and better understand the connection between consumption and cost", says Mrs Karin Rådegran, Project Manager 100koll, E.ON Retail.

The consumer has an Maingate developed optical reader fitted on to the Smart Meter that measures the consumption every 6 seconds and pass it on to the consumer as tangible consumption.

The consumer can then see, hour by hour, how many kilowatt hours used. The consumption can also be read over longer periods. The consumers shall be able to follow consumption at different interfaces; "where you want - when you want". Easy access is vital to gain knowledge and to change behaviour.

100koll is one part of the smart and automated home applications within Maingates M2H Services.
